Chief Geologist

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a healthy and safe working environment for employees.
  • Provide technical input to the exploration management plans, work procedures, reviews and agreements applicable to exploration activities.
  • Develop technical exploration strategies with regard for risks, timeframes and exploration potential.
  • Promote exploration strategies and gain management support for their implementation.
  • Analyze projects and provide recommendations for investment decisions.
  • Ensure that Nordgold has the appropriate geological skills to carry out effective exploration.
  • Ensure that geology sub-disciplines (e.g. geophysics, geochemistry) are effectively utilized.
  • Ensure best practices in the geology discipline are applied in Nordgold.
  • Provide input for setting priorities for exploration activities and assist in management of exploration budgets to achieve the desired discovery outcomes.
  • Provide technical leadership for geology & exploration team.
  • Play a key role in the preparation of reports, key exploration and governance metrics to inform management, exploration partners and key stakeholders as required.
  • Contribute to maintaining relationships with current and potential exploration partners, government bodies, consultants, contractors, and research institutions.

Requirements

  • Must have a postgraduate qualification in geology, possess depth of geological knowledge.
  • Working experience in leading mining global companies is a plus.
  • Strong field geology background combined with a proven track record in planning and executing exploration programs and discovering deposits.
  • Knowledge of modern resource calculation methods.
  • Knowledge of Russian government reporting standards.
  • Should have international and ability to work across diverse geographies and cultures; willingness to travel extensively.
  • Demonstrable experience in mentoring/coaching staff.
  • Gold focused background with multiple gold provinces experience.
  • Competence in interpretation of multiple data sets (geophysics, geochemical).
  • Able to operate in the corporate environment, but be primarily field focused; ability to see the big picture and to contribute to business development when required.
  • Good fit with Nordgold culture and values of safety, respect for people, professionalism and efficiency and teamwork.
  • Language abilities: preferably speak English and Russian ( French language a plus).
  • Proven leadership and communication skills.
  • Organized and structured approach and ability to multi-task and prioritize.

    Mining Director

    Responsibilities

    • Management of all mining operations, mine planning and technical support functions in compliance with Company Health and Safety, and Environmental requirements.
    • Continually review every aspect of the mining department to ensure that opportunities to add value and increase shareholder wealth are identified and implemented.
    • Continuous development and implementation of optimised mining operations, monitoring systems and procedures with specific attention to increasing efficiencies to ensure production targets are met and that all mining costs are controlled and minimised with all variations measured, reported, and action plans implemented to remedy adverse conditions.
    • Responsible for the development of the annual mining plan and budgeting process.
    • To be pro-active in all aspects of operational safety, efficient utilisation of resources, continuous improvement ideas and projects, and encourage teamwork across the departments.
    • Continual training and mentoring of national and expatriate supervisors, surveyors, engineers and the mines operations workforce in open pit mining practices, equipment operation, methods and systems.

    Requirements

    • BSc Mining Engineering or related subject
    • Minimum of 15 years post graduate experience in open pit mining and/or related operations with at least 5 years of senior managerial experience.
    • Wide knowledge of open pit mining methods, blasting and mine technical services related to gold mining operations.
    • Proven leadership skills and ability to work in a multinational environment.
    • The candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to act as and provide future succession status to the General Director position
    • Operational language is English with French an additional benefit.

    Mobile Maintenance Trainer (Fluent French & English)

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and manage maintenance training program to provide a high quality service to stakeholders;
    • Develop and implement a strategic maintenance technical training plan based on operational needs and requirements
    • Develop skills matrix for all maintenance disciplines and align with life of mine;
    • National trainer training and mentoring;
    • Ensure the accurate and timely completion of training reports to HR/Mobile Maintenance;
    • Provide analysis and recommendations to management on training requirements for life of mine planning;
    • Develop customized technical training documentation & material according with trainee’s literacy.

    Requirements

    • Associates Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 7-10 years of experience in mobile maintenance equipment in a senior training role or as technical trainer
    • 7 years total direct maintenance experience in HME : Preferably in rig drills Atlas Copco & Sandvik Pantera and Komatsu
    • Strong written , verbal and presentation skills
    • Demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge and skills to a developing workforce
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office and CMMS. SAP knowledge is an advantage
    • Experience in developing countries is beneficial. In West Africa is an advantage
    • Language skills: English – perfect, French – perfect
