Nordgold is fully committed to sustainability, and sustainable development principles are integrated into our
operating philosophy. We have always been responsible environmental stewards and we strive to minimise and mitigate
any negative impacts on our operations’ surroundings.
We are committed to ensuring a safe, fair, and rewarding working environment, with all employees united by a shared
set of values. We also support and empower our host communities through impactful CSR initiatives and enduring
partnerships to ensure that all stakeholders benefit from our presence.
Nordgold aims to adhere to international best practices across our asset base. We are engaged in various projects to raise our operating standards and are working to achieve compliance with the highest internationally recognised codes and guidelines as well as the applicable national standards, laws and practices.
Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) is calculated based on 200,000 hours worked. LTIFR data now both own employees and contractors.
HSE KPIs determine
of annual bonuses of top executives
To ensure compliance with the health and safety requirements, safety performance is included in management KPIs, and the safety performance targets determine 15% of annual bonuses paid to the Group’s executive directors and senior managers (10% linked to lost time injury and 5% linked to zero fatality and implementation of safety programmes).
Employee engagement rate
Nordgold conducts an annual survey to assess employees’ opinions, engagement, loyalty, and motivation towards attaining their performance goals. Through the survey, employees have an opportunity to submit recommendations, express their attitude towards the Group, and discuss operating processes, while management, in turn, can identify areas in need of development and improvement. Based on the survey, an action
plan for each mine is elaborated.
Local employment rate
Nordgold relies mostly on local employees with only 2% of its headcount comprised of expatriate employees. The long-term success of the Group’s operations depends upon its ability to further localise as many of the key roles in the Group as possible and ensure a pipeline of local employees in order to meet the expectations of the applicable government and local communities.
Net Zero CO 2
Projects with a life-of-mine up to 2050 and beyond will be provided a pathway to achieving net zero by 2050. Specific targets are set for new projects with a life-of-mine not reaching to 2050 to ensure their contribution to achieving the overall objective of falling carbon emissions.
Water reuse/ recycling efficiency
Calculated as total recycled/reused water divided by sum of fresh water withdrawal for technological processes and total recycled/reused water
Due to the processing methods used, 66% out of Nordgold’s total tailings facilities, which include TSF and heap leach tailings, have very low potential to cause significant impact. Dry tailings storage at Berezitovy and heap leach processing technology at Gross, Taborny and Bouly don’t require the construction of impoundment type dams, which significantly reduces the potential risk of failure or leakage.
Nordgold rose to 10th position in the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Russia environmental transparency rating in 2021, up from 12th in 2020.
The annual rating reflects the level of disclosure of environmental information provided by Russia’s mining and metals companies. 39 Russian companies participated in the 2021 WWF assessment. The final position in the rating is determined by assessing companies across three categories: environmental management, environmental impact, and the disclosure of information.
According to the rating’s methodology, the scale runs from zero to 100, with a lower score indicating a stronger ESG rating. 2022 Nordgold’s score of 26.9 points ranks the Company 13th out of 118 producers of precious metals globally indicating that Nordgold poses only a medium risk of experiencing potential material financial impact from ESG factors.
We are committed to ensuring a safe, fair, and rewarding working environment, with all employees united by a shared set of values.
