French Embassies to Burkina Faso and to Côte d’Ivoire visit Nordgold’s Bissa mine

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, 29 September 2017 - On 27 September, Sophie Clavelier, Commercial Adviser to the French Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire and regional director of Business France, and Michel Dhé, chief of the Commercial Department at the French Embassy in Burkina Faso, made an official visit to Nordgold’s Bissa mine. The visit was organised as part of the Mission for Discovering the Mining Industry of Burkina Faso (Mission Découverte du secteur minier du Burkina Faso), which took place between 26-29 September.

The visit saw a special delegation, led by the Mme Clavelier and Mr. Dhé, and focused on the Bissa-Bouly hub, chosen because of its status as the most successful industrial mine operating in the country.

The delegation also consisted of representatives from global business, including Bouygues Énergies & Services, Lafarge and thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions, among others. The full list included more than 10 world-class industrial enterprises.

During the visit, Sophie Clavelier acknowledged the performance of the mine, its excellent onsite safety and environmental standards, as well as the good quality of working and living conditions available to the mine’s workers, across all levels.

“Mission Découverte du secteur minier du Burkina Faso” is the first mission to Burkina Faso, organized by Business France, an international agency of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of France that supports the international development of the French economy. This event marks Burkina Faso’s importance as the fourth largest gold producer in Africa, and is aimed at bringing together the major businesses operating there.
