Nordgold increases Employee Development budget by 23%

London, United Kingdom, 3 June 2019 — Nord Gold SE (“Nordgold” or the “Company”), the internationally diversified gold producer, has increased the investment it makes into the Employee Development Programme by 23% to approximately US$4.8 million in the 2019 financial year from US$3.9 million in 2018.

In 2018, over two thirds of Nordgold’s total 8,000 strong global workforce participated in a development or training programme, while every employee now has their own personal development plan specifically designed to provide a platform for a long, varied career at Nordgold.

“We have always been clear that it is the quality of our people that has shaped the success of Nordgold up to this point, and those same qualities will determine our success into the future. It is only by continuing to invest in our people, by providing them with clear sustainable career goals and all the tools they need to reach them, that we can build a culture which fosters an ethos of team work and mutual respect. This in turn will help us in delivering our corporate objectives including sustainable profitable growth. I am pleased to be announcing a further extension to our development budget and expect this investment to continue.” Yulia SklarHuman Resources Director of Nordgold

Nordgold expects the total proportion of employees who participate in training & development programmes to increase in 2019 as part of the Employees Development Programme. Priority projects include:

  • further development of an E-learning Platform to encourage increased participation;
  • the establishment of West Africa Technical Training Centers to further improve the current internal training courses;
  • continuation of a structured training approach to employees of mining and mobile maintenance departments.

In addition to a proactive programme of training provided to employees, a “Self-nomination Programme” launched in 2017 proved to be hugely successful in driving Nordgold’s employees career development. In 2018, approximately 3% of the entire group workforce made a request for career development. A significant proportion of these employees subsequently went on to achieve internal promotions.

In 2019, My Career Path new e-tool will be designed to transparently show career opportunities. It will enable Nordgold’s employees to see a variety of career paths depending on the starting and targeting roles.

Employee Well-Being

Ensuring all employees benefit from a healthy, safe and secure workplace, Nordgold continues to invest in its Employee Well-Being Programme. In 2018, Nordgold invested US$1.8 million into employee well-being programmes designed to improve both social and living conditions at all mines.

Main projects included: Bissa canteen and training room renovation; construction of a new health clinic at Bouly; a new training facility at Taparko and Mosque at Lefa; refurbishment of the accommodation camp at Irokinda; a new canteen at Zun-Holba; gym renovation at Suzdal and Neryungri; and a new cloak room with new laundry equipment at Berezitovy.

In 2019, Nordgold plans to double its investments into the Employee Well-Being Programme to approximately US$3.6 million.

“Against our peers, we are still a relatively young gold company, but we have rapidly established ourselves as a pioneer and proven developer of major new gold projects. But to maintain our success, we need to attract, retain and motivate an outstanding workforce. I believe the measures we have put in place, and the investments we continue to make in our teams, put us in a strong position to maintain our growth trajectory, and ensure Nordgold is a proactive choice for ambitious people, who can see a long, positive career ahead for them with us.” Nikolai ZelenskiChief Executive Officer of Nordgold
