Nordgold participated in the 2nd Russia-Africa Public Forum
London, United Kingdom, 6 November 2020 — Evgeny Tulubensky, the Chief Legal Officer and ESG Director of the international gold mining company Nordgold, participated in a panel session at the 2nd Russian-Africa Public Forum, which took place in Moscow on 5th November 2020. The session focused on the innovative technologies being used by Russian miners to help aid sustainable development in Africa.
Nordgold has successfully been operating in West Africa since 2008, investing extensively in both the countries in which it operates, its peoples and their communities. Currently, Nordgold’s operations in the region include four gold mines (three in Burkina Faso and one in the Republic of Guinea) and several exploration projects. Over this twelve year period, Nordgold’s investments in West Africa have totaled in excess of $2 billion, helping it become a leading gold producer, and force for good, in the region.
During the session, Mr Tulubensky, in addition to describing the innovative technologies that Nordgold is utilises, reiterated that Nordgold’s actions are always guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. He further highlighted that in the countries in which Nordgold operates, it is focused on five priorities: namely, the creation of new jobs for local communities, developing education and healthcare infrastructure, helping facilitate economic empowerment as well as supporting environmental projects, including programmes for combating desertification.
At the moment we’re preparing a pilot project using big data, with the aim of using satellite images to help monitor the state of the environment and infrastructure in villages located near our mines, as well as the activities of illegal miners. Mr Tulubensky
