Nordgold Supports the 14th International African Studies Conference

London, United Kingdom, 24 October 2017 – Nord Gold SE (“Nordgold” or the “Company”) supported the 14th International African Studies Conference, “Africa and Africans in National, Regional and Global Dimensions”, that was hosted by the Institute for African Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences last week. The Conference took place from 17-20 October 2017 on the Institute’s campus in Moscow.

The Conference covered the sustainable development of African nations, the political environment in certain countries, safety matters, and the role of Russia and the global community in the development of the African economy. The participants also discussed a range of scientific and humanitarian issues such as urbanism, linguistic features of modern African languages, and human rights protection.

West Africa is a vital region for Nordgold, with two thirds of the Company’s earnings in 2016 coming from Burkina Faso (Bissa, Bouly and Taparko mines) and Guinea (Lefa mine). In addition to making significant capital investments in these countries, Nordgold also actively supports the local communities, drives the development of small businesses and remains a major employer in the regions.

The International African Studies Conference, “Africa and Africans in National, Regional and Global Dimensions”, traditionally brings together experts from leading universities from all over the world, including Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (Portugal), St. Petersburg State University and Diplomatic Academy (Russia), Peking University (Beijing, China) and the University of Warsaw (Poland), as well as many other research institutions across Europe, the Americas and Africa. The Conference is held in high regard by scholars, independent researchers and business leaders.
